The National Youth Theatre will be auditioning in Stoke-on-Trent soon, seeking members for the 2010/11 company. The NYT is inviting applications from all young actors, and also from theatre technicians (acting, costume, lighting and sound, scenery and prop making, or stage management). Membership is open to anyone between the ages of 13 and 21 for acting applicants, and ages 16 to 21 for technical applicants. Auditions and interviews will be in February 2010. Interested? The West Midlands Centre for Advanced Training in Dance is offering free dance workshops to specialist schools, youth groups and dance schools in the West Midlands. Half-day ‘taster’ workshop will introduce three dance styles (kontemporary, kathak, and bharatanatyam). These workshops are fully funded and are offered on a “first come, first served” basis. The workshop will seek to boost awareness and understanding of the CAT course, and encourage gifted and talented students to audition for the 2010 CAT programme in Birmingham. The European funding scheme MEDIA has a new MEDIA Call Alert out for development funding. There are several strands. 1) Development of Single Projects, aimed at companies who have produced at least one previous project which has been distributed recently, and who now wish to invest in the development of another project. 2) Development of Slates of Projects, aimed at medium-sized companies which have experience at an international level and strong financial capacity. 3) Development of Interactive Projects, aimed at companies who have produced at least one previous interactive project which has been distributed recently, and who now wish to invest in the development of another interactive project which complements an audiovisual project. The deadline for all applications is: 12th April 2010.

They are seeking radical modernisation options and designs for the Wedgwood Institute (the former Burslem public library) — offering new long-term uses for the building and its surrounding area.

The 2010 Stoke Your Fires festival of animation is staging a competition for amateur and school-based animators. Entries are invited in three categories; under 12 years old, 12 – 16 years old, and over 16 years old. Winners from each category will win a set of Kudlian educational animation software.

Young animators can book a place on a three-day animation workshop in claymation, brick film and flipbooks, taking place on 2nd, 9th and 16th January 2010. These sessions in Stoke-on-Trent will be lead by Burslem-based animators Big Red. A series of animation techniques including claymation, brick film and flipbooks. The cost is £10.
