As part of the city of Stoke-on-Trent’s centenary celebrations, The Sentinel newspaper will be publishing a special picture supplement on “Stoke-on-Trent after 100 years” toward the end of July 2010. The Sentinel‘s professional photographers have of course done a sterling job over the decades, but the newspaper also needs your help to complete the supplement. The BBC’s National Short Story Award 2010 is seeking entries. Deadline: 18th June 2010. The winning author will receive £15,000, the runner-up £3,000. Nottingham-based artist Chris Lewis-Jones has been working with teachers and Year Five pupils from Clarice Cliff School in Stoke-on-Trent, on a Partners in Creative Learning project. The residency will culminate in an exhibition at the AirSpace gallery in Hanley (11.00am – 4.00pm) which ends 16th June 2010.

Virgin Media Shorts Competition is a short film competition that champions undiscovered talent. Prizes include:

* 12 film makers win a chance to show their work on 214 cinema screen nationwide in the UK
* £30,000 to make their next film

* Films must be in English, or subtitled in English, and be of a duration of up to 2 minutes and 20 seconds.

Are you a writer who reads Creative Stoke from the nearby Derbyshire Peak District? Writing Ambitions is a networking and information day for Derbyshire writers, to be held on 3rd July 2010 at Alfreton (about 25 miles east of Stoke-on-Trent). The day will feature a range of speakers and workshops. The cost for the day is £12 (£10 concessions). Lunch is not provided.
