Newcastle-under-Lyme College will open its annual student art exhibition, at the new College campus, from 18th June to 25th June 2011. There will also be the opportunity to view the exhibition and find out more about the creative courses on offer, at the College’s Open Morning on 25th June 2011.

Congratulations to Burleigh in Middleport, for completing the major re-funding and re-financing that will save this unique working Victorian pottery (after it was hit by embezzlement). There are now apparently plans to open spaces in the building as crafts making studios by 2012.

Young Enterprise Staffordshire is reported to be seeking corporate sponsorship to help expand its service to 15-18 year olds who are considering a business start-up.

A number of ‘Factory Nights’ for artists are being planned across the Midlands and beyond in 2011-2012, as an… “innovative, new approach to commissioning art work and inspiring collaboration”, and these will aim to be… “experimental and spontaneous”. Places will be limited to 25, and selected attendees will then be able to apply for bursaries of between £1,000 and £3,000 to… “conduct research residencies, collaborations or produce a piece of work responding to the [venue] space.”. The ‘Factory Nights’ are reported to be partly funded by Staffordshire University and Stoke on Trent City Council, among others. Full details at the website.

Outside In, the UK network for outsider artists, is set for a website revamp and the launch of its 2012 Outside In 2012 Open exhibition in July 2011. Submissions of work will be accepted from 21st July 2011. They’re also planning…

“regional surgeries delivered in your area by the Outside In team and ‘artist ambassadors’. These surgeries will provide support and advice to local artists who want to create their own online galleries and who wish to submit their work for the 2012 Open competition.”

Outside In are also looking for organisations who may welcome the chance to host a surgery and accompanying workshop at their venue. A website to watch, if you’re making outsider or visionary art.
