Advance news, that the government’s £1-billion Youth Contract scheme is set to launch in April. Employers will get a wage subsidy of £2,275 for employing a suitable 18 to 24 year-old for six months. In addition, all unemployed people aged 18 to 24 will be entitled to a shorter work-experience placement “lasting up to eight weeks”, with 20,000 additional incentive apprenticeship payments to encourage firms to induct successful work-experience people into formal apprenticeships.
