Added to the Directory:  The curators of the Electric Picture House at Congleton are to have their premiere opening night on Friday 20th April 2012, to officially open this new cluster of nine studio spaces, and a group workshop and arts exhibition space in Congleton (just to the north of Stoke-on-Trent). The venue will thereafter be open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm (closed Sundays).

Susan writes from the Electric Picture House at Congleton. There’s to be a MayDay! Street Fair at this venue, with stalls available for local and regional artists and makers. The date is Monday 7th May 2012. A pitch will cost £20 for the day (no commission taken on sales). The Fair has some tables available, or artists can bring their own table/stands. The curators of the Electric Picture House at Congleton are seeking entrants for a Picture Postcard Show, for exhibition in June 2012…

“Postcards can be any medium or subject, but must fit the specified postcard size of 4 x 6 inches. All works must be original and unframed. The pieces will be for sale throughout the exhibition priced at £15 each.”

Laura Allen’s Stoke-based Prototype magazine, for creative 18-24 year olds, continues to develop. The editors and helpers are holding an official Launch Party…

On Tuesday 15th May 2012 Prototype magazine officially launches itself to the public and to the creative industries, when we hold our launch party at The Old Brown Jug in Newcastle-under-Lyme from 7pm-10pm.

Tickets are now on sale at from only £5.

Issue one of Prototype is still available for the Kindle — and issue 2 is out but has already sold out…

There is to be a free traditional country crafts Hurdle Making workshop at Hem Heath Nature Reserve (on the edge of Stoke-on-Trent between Wedgewood at Barlaston and the Trentham Lakes industrial estate). The date is Sunday 15th April 2012 (10am-3pm). Hurdles are traditional rustic fencing made out of woven willow or hazel withies. Places are limited, so booking is essential. Park Your Yarn is looking for people to make pieces for their new knitting intervention project in nearby Wolverhampton. The aim is to transform Saint Peters Gardens, with the aid of yarn and knitting. There are specific plans to cover 15 benches with knitted covers. Interested? There are a series of drop-in workshops over the next three weeks in various locations around Wolverhampton. Junction 2012, a contemporary arts festival is set to take place in nearby Wolverhampton on 3rd-5th August 2012. Artists living or working in the Midlands and artists nationally and internationally with links to the Midlands are invited to apply. Proposals should be for site responsive or site contextual work. The Musicians Benevolent Fund (MBF) has opened a new small grants scheme for emerging musicians. Their Emerging Excellence Awards (PDF link) will offer up to £3,000 to selected individual musicians, composers and groups.

Don’t forget that tomorrow (28th March) Crea8NET is offering the first of four creative training evenings that are set to happen this Spring. The first event will be at the Burslem School of Art, on the 28th March 2012 (from 7pm)…
