The photographer Martin Parr will be visiting Stoke-on-Trent, to give an illustrated talk about his career as a documentary photographer and photobook collector. Stafford Library and Staffordshire Libraries are running a Short Story Competition. No more than 2000 words, in English. All ages welcome. There is no entry fee. There’s to be a Jubilee Jamboree event for Stoke-on-Trent’s younger kids (age 3-5), on Wednesday 30th May 2012. The venue is Tunstall Park (Floral Hall). Play sessions and activities run from 10.15am until 12 noon, then 12.45pm until 2.30pm. Workshops include music-making, play with clay, storytelling, and movement-and-play.

“Evolve 12” is an evening of final films made this year by first and second-year media / film production students at Staffordshire University. These will be a range of documentaries, experimental films and personal films. The date is Wednesday 16th May 2012 (7.45pm) at the Film Theatre art-house cinema in Stoke (just around the corner from the city’s main train station). Easy access by bus and rail, and there is secure bicycle-locking at the Film Theatre or train station. Sure to be a good networking and talent-spotting opportunity!
