BBC Radio Stoke is offering a 1-4 week work placement at its Hanley radio studios in Stoke-on-Trent (placement ref. No. 59811-4/13). Closing date for applications 31st January 2013, for a placement in April 2013.

The organisers of Keele University’s Three Counties Open Photography Exhibition are inviting submissions of framed prints. Deadline for entries is 8th and 9th February 2013. Entry fee: £12, or £10 concessions. For details see the Web page or email:  arts@keele.ac.uk

The Staffordshire Enjoy Art initiative is calling for local artists and makers to take out an annual membership fee of £100, enabling promotion in various Destination Staffordshire print publications including the County’s main Visitor Guide, the Out & About newspaper, and the Staffordshire Enjoy Art brochure which will be available through Tourist Information Centres. A Staffordshire Enjoy Art ‘Exhibition Series’ is also planned for 2013 (at Shugborough over Easter; at Barewall in Burslem in July; at the Museum of Cannock Chase from mid October 2013). Sign-up for membership during January 2013 to be included in the new 2013 brochures.

Staffordshire University now has 2013 dates for its “Show & Tell” 2013 art and design degree shows. The opening Stoke-on-Trent campus launch evening will be on Friday 7th June 2013, and the shows will then run from 8th-15th June 2013. The additional public programme of ‘Fringe’ events is also set to happen again in 2013.

Stoke-on-Trent Guitar Club is a new club based at the Beehive Inn, on Honeywall in Penkhull. The inaugural monthly meeting will be on Tuesday 22nd January 2013 (8pm). All abilities and music types are welcome.

Application forms are now available for school rock bands to appear at the Staffordshire Rocks 2013 event. This competitive rock event gives school rock bands a chance to perform in a prestigious venue to a large audience.

The Friends of Staffordshire Young Musicians are inviting entries for The John W.R. Taylor Memorial Singing Competition 2013. The competition is open to singers aged 11-19 who live and are educated in Staffordshire, and who can perform as solo singers, or in duets, trios or quartets. Deadline: 28th January 2013.

The West Midlands Arts Health and Wellbeing Network is looking for six “Artist Champions” to facilitate a series of regional events. These events will bring artists and health workers together to explore what makes a quality arts & health project, and to develop a “Quality Framework”. To express an interest please send a C.V., a link to your website / online examples of practice, and tell them which sub-region of the West Midlands you would like to work in. Staffordshire University is to host a HEA training workshop day on Embedding employability within Drama and the Performing Arts at undergraduate level, on 14th May 2013. The venue will be Studio One at Staffordshire University’s Stoke-on-Trent campus. Full details at the Web page.

Job:  The Walsall Creative Development Team, in partnership with the Parenting Team and Teenage Pregnancy Team (NHS), are seeking proposals from community arts workers / media companies to creatively design, develop and deliver a film-making project. The project will result in a film which shows parents/carers how to talk to children (aged 11 and above) about having sex. Deadline: 18th January 2013. “Fantasy February” is a residential writing weekend at the nearby Dove Valley Centre (nr. Buxton, the Peak District). The weekend for fantasy authors will run 15th – 17th February 2013, and the guest author will be Adrian Tchaikovsky. Places cost £150 — including two nights accommodation, meals, tea/coffee throughout, goodie bag, and a variety of writing activities. The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise is to offer a “Preparing to Run Your Own Business” course for the over 50s, in Stafford town. The course dates are 11th – 22nd March 2013.
