The government will launch the new Creative Employment Programme in a few weeks time. The initial aim of this major £15m programme is to have 6,500 apprentices (aged 16 to 24) working for pay in the UK’s arts and creative industries, within two years. The National Skills Academy is heading the programme — and the National Theatre, the V&A Museum, and Covent Garden are all signed up to be among the first users of the service. Details of the launch, and the first national roadshows, are available here. Some local creative firms such as Burslem’s Barewall have already employed several apprentices, but this major new programme would seem to present a very substantial opportunity for creatives in North Staffordshire — both for creative young people and creative employers. More details as Creative Stoke gets them.
